Summary of Activities

  • Arts and Social Sciences - Test your abilities with a Nerf target practice, and learn about the popular Police Studies program. Dress up in the costumes of some of your favorite literary characters, compliments of the World Literature program, and win a chance to earn funds towards your tuition.

  • Business – Beedie School of Business student clubs will have a "Mocktail" Competition where each club creates a delicious mocktail drink and guests get to sample them and rate them. The team with the best rating wins!

  • Faculty of Applied Sciences, Engineering:
    • Lego Mindstorm Robots - Robots have been built out of lego material with sensors and motors. A program has been set inside the robot for them to compete like Sumo wrestlers!
    • Discover how a cool adsorption refrigeration test bed works, using only solar energy to create a cooling effect, and other sustainable cooling devices.
    • Autonomous unmanned vehicles are small-scale planes that students have created to compete internationally. Learn about how they are tested in identifying targets, and their future potential to assist in forest fire assessments.

  • Faculty of Applied Science, Computing Science:
    • Test out games on an Android tablet that were written by our 2nd year Software Systems students in their CMPT 276 (Software Engineering) course.
    • Software Systems students will be running demos on specialized hardware used in their CMPT 433 (Embedded Systems) course. 
    • Challenge yourself with our Soma cube - can you put it back together in record time? 
    • Stop by and chat with our advisors, faculty and staff to find out more about Software Systems
    • Enter our draw to win a Nexus 7 Google Tablet!

  • Co-op will be hosting a photobooth – capture the moment with professional photo's of you and your friends at the Open House!

  • Health Sciences will be hosting a presentation about how Health Sciences touches people in unimaginable ways. Hear the stories of the personal journeys that our students have traveled. Spanning South America, Ghana, Indonesia and Japan, learn how Health Sciences makes a difference. 

  • Interactive Arts and Technology
    • Wo.Defy is a wedding dress that shows a bride’s emotions by emitting LED lights and setting off pulsating silk flowers that respond to increased breathing and muscle contractions
    • Braccialetto puts GPS technology to practical use for cyclists in the form of arm bands that help them to interact directly with the environment and experience their surroundings while navigating freely
    • Sonic Cradle melds music, meditation and modern technology

  • Science -  see how to make colourful elephant toothpaste, and other science stinks and bangs, along with a variety of hands-on opportunities in chemistry, biology and physics

  • Other fun activities - Other activities include food, a Kids Zone with crafts, a photo booth and live entertainment from a variety of cultural performers, including Japanese drummers, Bhangra and Polynesian dancers, and of course, piping and Highland dance. Hear local musicians Shy Sharity and youth band Good for Grapes!
