Faculty of Science
Science at Surrey has four components:
What is Science Year One?
Science Year One is a suite of first-year science courses which, together with the courses offered by other faculties, provide an excellent first step for students who wish to major in many areas of science and the applied sciences. The program will also appeal to students wishing to apply to professional schools in medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, and other areas. Spread over two semesters, the program has a flexible cohort structure that offers the benefits of small classes which facilitate the development of friendships and support groups, and strong rapport between students and instructors.
Lecture and tutorial sections for first-year biology, chemistry and earth sciences courses are held at the Surrey campus. Laboratory sessions are currently held at the Burnaby campus and are scheduled to minimize commuting time between locations. Our new Surrey teaching laboratories opened May 28, 2011.
Science Year One provides pathways to a wide spectrum of majors in Science, Health Sciences, Mathematics, and Business Administration, and it provides guaranteed-access to mainstream science courses in general biology, general chemistry, calculus, studio physics, earth sciences, biomedical physiology & kinesiology, and statistics.
These courses, together with others offered at SFU Surrey, encompass the first-year academic courses required to proceed to the second year of majors in:
