Course List
Science Year One is a full-time, two-term program that begins each Fall.
Each term you are required to enroll in one SFU Surrey calculus course and two other courses required for a major offered by the Faculty of Science. Depending on your area of interest, you can choose your courses from one of the nine charts shown below. High school prerequisites can be viewed in the SFU calendar or here.
The following course charts will be revised by the Faculty each year and posted in the Fall for the following academic year. Please scroll to the bottom of the page for more information for Science Year One students.

Students admitted to Science Year One at SFU Surrey are admitted directly to the Faculty of Science. Admission requirements are the same for progams at the Surrey and Burnaby campuses

Students must complete two full-time terms of Science Year One before being eligible to transfer into any other SFU program. Once the confirmation deposit for the program is paid, a student is considered to have agreed to all program conditions

Laboratory sessions for Earth Sciences are held at the Burnaby campus. Laboratory sessions for all other first-year sciences are held at the Surrey campus.

BISC 102-4 and BISC 101-4 may be taken in any order

Physics is taught at the Surrey campus in a studio laboratory designed to link theory with practice. Students work in collaborative groups in a technology-rich environment. Experience suggests that the studio pedagogy is superior to traditional methods of instruction

The Academic Advisor may approve a modification of the program requirements where appropriate (nadia_williams@sfu.ca)

Students may take courses beyond those required for good standing in the program at any SFU campus or through the Centre for Distance Education provided those courses fit with their Surrey course schedules. WQB courses are recommended

After Science Year One - students continue as students in the Faculty to which they were originally admitted. Students not already admitted to a major are encouraged to discuss their longer term goals with the Academic Advisor (nadia_williams@sfu.ca) during their first term

Students from other Faculties - while the majority of students in Science Year One have been admitted to the Faculty of Science, the program also welcomes students from other Faculties such as Business Administration
