Gurmeet K. Sohi

Science Year One, Life Sciences Year Two

Where did you grow up? Vancouver and Surrey

What high school did you graduate from? I graduated from Princess Margaret Secondary

Why did you go to SFU Surrey? It was closer to home and I really liked the cohort programs they had set up for Science

Any scholarships?
-SFU Summit Entrance Scholarship - $3500
-Provincial Scholarship - $1000
-Khalsa Credit Union Scholarship - $1500

What program are you taking at SFU Surrey? I took the Science Year One cohort in my first year and Life Sciences Year Two cohort in my second year.  I am finishing my degree in Kinesiology.

What's your favourite memory of SFU Surrey? My favourite memories had to be the study sessions I had with my friends with ice cream and snacks from the mall.

What's unique about your program/about SFU Surrey? The classes sizes were very small so the professors got to know you by name and since my program was a cohort, I had all the same people in my classes which allowed for a great social and learning network.

Any special accomplishments? I was the Science One Representative for the SFU Surrey Campus Committee which allowed me to represent my cohort which was quite rewarding. I was also a Student Ambassador which offered me great volunteer opportunities in both the SFU and Surrey communities.  I'm a returning Orientation Leader at SFU Surrey which has been been an amazing opportunity for me to help new SFU students. A personal accomplishment for me is being able to volunteer and service the SFU and larger community as well as graduate with my undergraduate degree next year at the age of 18 which was a goal of mine since I started SFU.

What's next for you? I'll be graduating next year with my undergraduate degree and I will return to SFU as a graduate student and finish my Master's. After that, I plan to go to medical school.
